Singapore motorcycle accessories and riding gear catalog management case study

Client Overview

A leading motorcycle accessories and riding gear retailer based in Singapore and Malaysia, managing one of the largest catalogs in the region. The client works with 150+ international brands, offering a comprehensive range of products for both riders and motorcycles.

Their product portfolio includes:

  • Helmets, racing jackets, riding gears, pants
  • Racing suits, boots, gloves, visors
  • Motorcycle components and accessories such as bodyworks, brake systems, exhausts, suspension, electronics, crash protection, lights, mirrors, wheels, windshields, and more

With a large and diverse catalog, maintaining accurate product compatibility information was critical to improving customer confidence and purchase accuracy.

Business Challenge

The client’s primary requirement was to implement accurate and complete Bike Year–Make–Model (YMM) compatibility data across motorcycle component products in their existing OpenCart store.

Over time, the catalog had grown organically, resulting in several challenges:

  • An outdated legacy catalog, where YMM data was partially available, inconsistent, or completely missing for older products
  • Many products had been uploaded in earlier years without structured compatibility data
  • Customers struggled to identify whether a product would fit their specific bike model

This led to multiple business issues:

  • Increased customer enquiries and pre-sale questions
  • Customer trust concerns due to unclear fitment information
  • Higher return and exchange rates for incompatible parts
  • Reduced conversion rates for bike component products

Additional challenges included:

  • Managing ~10,000 products across ~150 brands, many of which did not provide standardized compatibility data
  • Several manufacturer websites were either unavailable or published only in non-English languages
  • Several manufacturer websites were either unavailable or published only in non-English languages

Standardizing and validating YMM data at this scale was operationally difficult for the client’s internal team, prompting them to engage us for a structured, long-term solution.

Our Solution

We delivered a comprehensive Bike Compatibility Data Management and Catalog Optimization solution, specifically tailored for the client’s OpenCart platform and complex product system.

  1. Product & Brand Assessment

    • Audited all motorcycle component categories requiring YMM data
    • Segregated brands based on data availability
    • Identified high-complexity products such as bike-specific accessories
  2. Manufacturer Website Research

    • Collected Year–Make–Model compatibility data directly from official manufacturer websites wherever available
    • Analyzed fitment tables, technical documentation, and product references
    • Converted non-English manufacturer websites into English to extract accurate compatibility details
  3. For brands without official websites:

    • For brands without official manufacturer websites, collected compatibility data from brand-provided catalogs, including PDF brochures, Excel files, product images, and technical documents
    • For brands where no official catalogs or structured data were available, we recommended using competitor websites as the most reliable alternative, and proceeded only after client approval
    • Ensured exact product identification by validating part numbers, SKUs, sizes, finishes, and other technical details before capturing any compatibility information
    • Conducted in-depth Google research to locate reliable product references and fitment data
    • Identified products using part numbers / SKUs, brand references, product imagery, and specifications
    • Cross-referenced compatibility data from trusted competitor websites and established motorcycle accessory platforms
  4. Compatibility Validation & Cross-Verification

    • Cross-checked YMM data received from multiple sources
    • Standardized all YMM data into a single, consistent format to ensure uniform presentation across the entire catalog
    • Eliminated conflicting, duplicate, or unreliable fitment information before implementation
    • Ensured compatibility data followed a clear structure that could be easily maintained for future updates
  5. OpenCart Product Data Implementation

    • Updated Year–Make–Model details within product descriptions
    • Structured compatibility information for easy customer understanding
    • Maintained consistency across similar product types
  6. Product Title & URL Optimization

    • Updated product titles to include relevant YMM details
    • Optimized product URLs to reflect the latest compatibility data
    • Improved SEO relevance for bike-specific search queries
  7. Quality Control & Final Review

    • Conducted internal quality checks for data accuracy
    • Ensured consistency across product listings
    • Verified correct frontend display on the OpenCart store

Results & Impact

After completing the project, accurate Year–Make–Model compatibility data was added across approximately six thousand motorcycle component products. Customers were able to easily identify compatible parts for their motorcycles, which reduced confusion during purchase and significantly lowered customer complaints and fitment-related queries. Clear and consistent product information helped customers make confident buying decisions, while improved compatibility accuracy contributed to fewer return and exchange requests. Product titles and URLs were also optimized to improve search visibility and relevance, resulting in an overall improvement in customer trust and the shopping experience. A structured and scalable YMM data process was established to support future catalog growth and updates.

Following the success of this engagement, the client onboarded dedicated staff from our team to manage ongoing catalog and data requirements. This partnership has now continued for over seven years, reflecting long-term trust, consistent delivery, and a strong working relationship built over time.
