Business Challenge
The client had listed bathroom fixtures individually (as single products). This made it difficult for customers to find a complete set of bathroom fixtures easily.(e.g., toilet, basin, bath, taps, furniture). The absence of bundled products led to the loss of a significant portion of potential sales.
The client chose not to use a bundle creation app and instead preferred to create new listings that offered the complete set as single products.
This challenge included: - The manufacturer brochure listed products by product type and not by collection
- The brochure only contained foot notes about compatible products
- The client had shared a strict structure to be maintained for product descriptions.
- Consistency was to be maintained in product naming and attribute data
Our Bathroom & Sanitaryware Ecommerce Operation Solution
Our team provided a comprehensive Product Catalog Management and Data Cleansing solution to address these challenges:
-
Product Data Collection
- All individual product SKUs were gathered from the shared pricelist/website
- Information necessary to create product sets were collected from manufacturer brochures, technical datasheets, and official product catalogs
- Brand, model numbers, and version details across obtained documents were verified for possible errors
-
Catalog Audit & Planning
- First we reviewed the existing product data.
- Then identified individual fixtures that can be bundled into full suite offerings.
- We then defined grouping rules based on style, brand, finish, size, and compatibility and obtained confirmation from the client.
-
SEO and Customer-Friendly Optimization
- Once the suite products were defined we proceeded to create product titles as per the naming convention requested by the client.
- We then carefully combined multiple product details into a single, cohesive description, with intentional effort to keep content concise, clear for customers, and optimized for search relevance
- We also updated meta titles and meta-descriptions for new suite pages
- Attribute data and Category filters were updated to make full suite products easy to find
Results & Impact
After implementing the updated catalog structure, customers found it easier to discover, explore, and compare bathroom fixtures and full bathroom suites. Over the following six months, the client reported a around 40% increase in sales.
Extended Scope: Data Standardisation
Following the successful completion of grouped product listing creation the client assigned us with a new task of cleansing and standardising the data for all products on store.
We carried out the following tasks as part of this project.
- We corrected inconsistencies in product titles, descriptions, and attribute values
- Standardized the naming conventions across categories
- Identified the most relevant filter attributes for each category
- Removed duplicate, incorrect and unwanted filter options and attribute values.
- Assigned/Updated attributes to each product as per new standard
- Ensured consistent filtering across brands and product types
This creates a more consistent filtering experience across brands and product types, making it easier for customers to navigate the site.
The client now has a dedicated catalog management expert to handle regular price updates, new product additions, and the removal of discontinued items.
Often Overlooked Tips While Selling Bathroom Products Online
- Sell complete bathroom sets, not just single items. Selling bathroom sets helps customers imagine their new bathroom and makes choosing easier. This also means they are more likely to buy more items at once.
- Make sure the information included with each product is accurate. This helps minimize returns, which can become costly, especially for bathroom products.
- Try to keep bathroom information the same across brands. Improving attributes helps with easy filtering, comparison and improves the overall feel of the store.
- Optimize the page for user experience, keyword-rich titles and concise description will help improve discoverability and organic search.
