The client was using X-Cart for managing product listing and sales. X-Cart lacked new updates, had security and maintenance problems. It had poor support and did not meet the client’s expectations for a high-quality and modern online store.
So, client needed a strong online store that could manage many products, make the website easier to use, and allow more control over performance and design, without affecting daily business operations
Clients requirements were for an online platform for selling Modern Furniture with smooth running and performance. If any fixing is required, it should not affect their live sales.
Along with the migration, we made a few smart improvements to make shopping easier and help increase sales. One of the biggest changes was how furniture product variants work. When a customer clicks on a product showing a specific option, like a blue color, the product page opens with that same option already selected. This way, customers don’t have to select it again. Everything looks and feels consistent, which makes shopping quicker and less confusing.
As a result, customers moved through the buying process more smoothly, and fewer people dropped off because of variant-related confusion.
The big problem we faced while migration was, as the furniture items had many options and attributes and its related images, volume of data was so large due to which the migration process became very time consuming. The most challenging stage was the downloading of the whole dataset. Several times we faced connection interruptions, during the transfer process, due to limitations of existing hosting and slow server performance.
As X-Cart is not used more, so there were not many guides, tutorials and online support was unavailable which can help to fix problems. It was very hard to get support when we expected help, so we even tried AI tools assistance, but unfortunately AI also was not able to help.
After doing a lot of research, we found a smart way to transfer data directly from the server using special commands. This helped us avoid connection problems that were slowing things down. As a result, we were able to download large amounts of data quickly and safely. Later, this method became our standard way of handling similar projects.
Instead of using outside tools that did not work well, we created our own special migration program designed to match X-Cart’s data system. This tool fixed data structure problems and helped us move products, customers, and orders much faster. It also became a useful solution for future projects.
The old website design was created in 2012. Our task was to replace it with a modern and trendy design without making the website slow. We created a new design that looked updated and still loaded quickly.
After putting the new website in a testing environment, we checked its speed and noticed it was slow at first. So, we improved the code and CSS, which made the website much faster. Then we moved the site to the live server.
But soon after going live, the website became slow again. This happened because many bots were visiting the site and there was a sudden increase in real users at the same time.
We created an organized system to improve all website images at once using automated tools. This made the image files smaller, which helped the website pages load much faster. At the same time, we made sure the images stayed clear and good-looking. This way, the website kept its premium style while performing smoothly.
To share our experience in handling this migration project for furniture products, though it includes a lot of technical challenges such as transferring large volumes of data, work on old websites and at the same time managing high traffic websites, we are able to accomplish it successfully.
We developed special tools to move the data, created simple yet impressive modern design for the website, improved website speed, and controlled bot traffic. Now, the website is running smoothly on a strong and secured WooCommerce platform.
